"Great services We stopped by here because of the flat tire . The room was super nice and clean. Big kitchen space. The owner lady who runs the business is lovely and super friendly. It is also a great location. Very close to tolmie peak trail."

"Logging country! An awesome home, great location and even better local knowledge. We followed Shelley's suggestions and were rewarded with some great hikes. Lucky enough to climb the 'Burroughs' from Sunrise, with clear blue skies and fantastic views of Mt Rainier and the glaciers. Spray falls from the Carbon county entrance was one of the most beautiful falls I've seen. We also enjoyed the Buckley Logging festive while we were there, a fun experience, esp being from Australia. Thanks"

"Convenient, relaxing, great breakfast My wife and I had never been to a bed and breakfast before and weren’t sure what to expect. The hosts Shelly and Mark were very welcoming and informative about the area. They were a great resource of information about the park and things to do. Shelly made an amazing homecooked breakfast every morning and was also a great conversationalist. After a long day hiking, I sat on the wrap-around porch and read while the sound of crickets filled the air. The occasional elk bugle in the distance reiterated the fact we were as close to nature as one can get without the hassle of tents. We would highly recommend this place to couples who want a relaxing place to stay after days full of adventures exploring Mount Rainier National Park."

"Wonderful! I booked at the B&B and am so glad that I did. It was very convenient to the Carbon and Mowich entrances. Shelly knew we were heading out early and packed us a breakfast to go and wow, what a breakfast. We were fueled for a full day hike. Beautiful scenery and a soft bed to come back to. We will definitely come back for more of Shelly’s hospitality and the beautiful room. Thank you, Shelly!"

"Countrys Shady Rest B&B This B&B was a convenient access to Mt Rainier Natl Park. We stayed three restful and quiet nights and was treated with delightful breakfasts. The John Wayne room had a jacuzzi which was a big plus after hiking the trails. Shelley was attentive to (our) the guests' needs. We met her four adorable grandchildren, too. If anyone gets a chance to be in the area, Countrys Shady Rest B&B is worth considering."

"Great stay in a great place! My husband and I came out to hike the trails at Mount Rainier. The location is so convenient and straight down the road from one of the entrances to the park. Shelley was so very welcoming, kind, hospitable, and accommodating. We had a seamless and comfortable stay. We would recommend to everybody we know!"

"Lovely place! We booked the John Wayne room - it was nicely decorated, walked out to a deck, had a private bathroom with double vanities and a large jacuzzi tub. But our favorite part of this bed and breakfast was the FOOD and the hosts! They were very warm and welcoming and made us feel like family. I felt the need to help with dishes, but Shelley reminded me that I was a "guest". :) The breakfasts were excellent quality, perfect quantity and the presentation was fascinating. I would come back here to visit in a heartbeat if I'm ever in the area again. Shelley and Mark definitely know how to put travelers at ease."

"Great place to stay! We had a lovely time here. We have never been to Mt Rainier and we wanted to experience the best hikes. The entrance near Carbonado is worth doing because it is off the beaten path. If you like beauty but want more of a secluded experience then this is a great place to experience Mt Rainier. Shelley is the best host and she will make your stay a welcome one! The bed and breakfast experience is a bargain and the best part? You will meet other people who are enjoying Mt. Rainier and share stories!"

Viele Grüsse herzlichst Paul & Holger ; Frankfurt, Germany"

"Really enjoyed my stay I went hiking with a friend in Rainer National Park and needed a place to stay. This was the closest place outside the park in Carbonado. We were greeted by Shelly who was simply delightful. She gave us really great information for another hike to do the next day. The room was clean and cozy. The bathroom had a waterfall which was neat. Shelly made breakfast which was delicious. It started with fresh fruit, a yogurt parfait, and ended with cream cheese and blackberry french toast with bacon. She also had protein packs available to purchase for the hikes so you didn't have to drive into town. Overall I really enjoyed my stay."

"Great hostess We spent 3 nights there visiting Mt Rainier. Shelley is a great hostess. She makes certain that your stay is comfortable and helps you find the best restaurants and places to hike. You feel like family when you stay there. The downside is the location. It's a bit far from Sunrise,Paradise and good restaurents but also far from the crowds and that's a good thing"

"Nice place on the NW side of Mt Rainer We were very pleased with this place which was in a nice country setting. Our room was very nice and clean as with the rest of the home. Shelly was extremely nice, made a wonderful breakfast and treated us great. The decor in the home was very nice. This was located in the NW side of Mt Rainier which I learned is considered the less crowded and touristy area of mountain. From our location, we were able to travel up the mountain which lead to some good trails to hike. Granted the drive up the mountain took around 45-60 minutes but it was better than dealing with all the people elsewhere. We really enjoyed the hike to see Spray Falls. I was happy with this place and am giving it 5 stars. The only cons I could think of would be, I wished we had a tv in our room. And yes I am new to bed and breakfast scene and now realize that most rooms do not have a tv. And second was that we were on the main floor and when I was trying to fall asleep, I kept hearing the couple in the room above us walking. This really wasn't a huge deal. I will still give 5 stars. And by the way, just a mile or two away, we had dinner at the Carbonado Saloon. I loved it there! The food was awesome and tasty cold draft beer. I think the black and blue burger was about the best I have ever had."

"Decorator's Delight The B&B is conveniently located near the northwest corner of Mt. Rainier National Park, close to the Carbon River and Mowich Lake entrances. Our hostess Shelley Wright greeted us and provided all the information you could ask for about the B&B, food and activities in the area. The B&B is beautiful. Shelley and Mark clearly have put their hearts and souls into the business. We stayed in the Garden Room. The room has an English garden vibe. Very pretty, very feminine. The queen bed had a mammoth pillow top mattress that was very soft. The picture window has lovely lace curtains that welcome the dawn. If you don't want an early morning wake up call, bring sleep mask. Water is provided by a well on the property. Water pressure for the shower may be an issue. The shower enclosure is interesting. You have a dozen lovely fluffy towels in the bath but no towel racks. Our main complaint would be the lack of counter space in the bathroom. During your stay you have access to the living room, kitchen and dining room. The Wright's live downstairs so your paths don't cross unless you should need to see them. There is free wifi but no TV. Breakfast was served at 9:00 but had we asked, we could have had an earlier start time. The forecast was for rain so a late start was fine. We had strawberry Greek yogurt parfaits and cream cheese stuffed French toast. When we booked we were asked if we had any dietary restrictions, we had none. But if you needed fainting goat cheese from Siberia on an English muffin, Shelley would have found it for you. She is that in to customer service. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again if we are in the area."

"Home away from home while visiting Mt.Rainier This was a great location for entering Mt.Rainier National Park--Mowich Lake. The house/room was very comfortable and well equipped. The breakfast served was fabulous! Also, Shelley & Mark were both very welcoming, friendly and informative. Shelley's knowledge of the area was extensive, as she is a life long resident. I would definately stay here again and I'm comfortable recommending this B&B--especially while visiting Mt.Rainer NP!"

"Comfy cozy kindness! My husband and I were eager to visit Mt. Rainier and all the lodges in the park were booked solid so we investigated and reserved the John Wayne suite at this B&B. There are only 3 rooms available for rent, each different and each fully furnished for comfort. Our suite was on the main floor; the owners live downstairs and are available all the time to help with arrangements for visits to the park. Shelley, the proprietress is a sweetheart -- she is very welcoming and cooked not only a delicious breakfast two days in a row, she also packed us a great lunch to take on our hike. The family style service at breakfast enabled us to meet other guests and it was so relaxed to be in the informal setting we all became friends right away. The price for the room was quite reasonable and it included the breakfast and use of facilities -- the porch, livingroom, etc. Our suite had a jacuzzi bath which was fantastic after a day of hiking. Shelley went out of her way to make us comfortable and not wedded to a timetable for coming and going. I highly recommend Carbon Country's Shady Rest Bed and Breakfast for anyone wanting to comforts of home away from home."

"A real American welcome Jackie and I can't praise Shelly and Mark enough for the real American welcome given to two travelers a long way from home. A beautiful location, a beautiful house, beautiful rooms, beautiful food, nothing could have been better for our stay in the backcountry of Washington State. Really sorry to leave and we will miss them both. Mike And Jackie"

"Delicious breakfasts! Shelley is a great hostess who made us welcome and cooked tasty, creative breakfasts. Perfect start for a day of hiking around Mowich Lake/Carbon River - we highly recommend Tolmie Peak Trail. Stayed in Garden room upstairs which is lovely and light, overlooking the paddock. Unique shower room with stone walls and full waterfall shoot, as well as regular shower head. Quiet location. Carbonado Saloon good for burgers with home-cut fries."

"Workcation First stop on a quick trip prior to a work conference. This was our first visit to the Pacific Northwest, so we wanted to see a lot! Shady Rest is in a perfect spot...relatively close to airport and a good access point to Mt Ranier. The Inn was very comfortable, Shelley and Mark really like what they do - it shows! Shelley especially likes cooking so breakfast was superb! Since we have never been to the area, Shelley helped us with some suggestions to get the most out of our very short visit. We drove around to the Sunrise entrance to the park to view the mountain. No matter how many pictures you look at, it will never match the breathtaking views in person. I can't wait to return, there is so much more to see! Thanks for a relaxing visit and a great start to our visit."
